Oak Tapes Mastering

Alon Benjamini

Alon Benjamini is a Grammy-nominated engineer and the mastering engineer behind Oak Tapes Mastering in New York. Before focusing on mastering, he spent years recording and mixing records at studios including Big Orange Sheep, Sear Sound, Power Station and East Side Sound.

Recording and mixing

I came to mastering from the tracking room. I've recorded and mixed many projects, mostly jazz, indie and singer-songwriter records, at Big Orange Sheep, Sear Sound, Power Station, East Side Sound and other studios around New York.

Engineering sessions from the first take to the final mix showed me where records go wrong and what they need at the end. Now I spend that experience on the last step: making a finished mix sound like a finished record.

Drums

I'm also a working drummer and a graduate of The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. I've played with Reggie Workman, Omer Avital, Avishai Cohen and Gilad Hekselman, and I play drums on Gilad Hekselman's Far Star. I'm a Canopus Drums endorser.

Mastering

I've mastered more than 40 releases, including Ari Hoenig's Tea for Three (Fresh Sound New Talent, 2024), Rasmus Sørensen's Balancing Act with Kendrick Scott (2024), Kaisa's Machine's Taking Shape (Greenleaf Music, 2023) and Moving Parts (2025), Eduardo Belo's Trios (2025) and Barak Mori's Bassed in New York: The 2014 Session (2026).
